Exploring Identity Through Symbolic Narratives

Ludovica Lugli is an Italian contemporary artist based in Rome. Her multidisciplinary practice spans painting, installation, sculpture, and site specific mural projects, exploring the emotional and symbolic dimensions of human experience through a surreal visual language. Her works investigate themes of identity, listening, memory, and human relationships, transforming everyday subjects into visual allegories that invite multiple interpretations. Anthropomorphic animals, faceless female figures, and symbolic objects become recurring elements through which she reflects on empathy, vulnerability, power, and the invisible dynamics that shape contemporary society.

Rather than illustrating stories, Lugli constructs suspended narratives where the absence of a defined identity encourages viewers to project their own experiences onto the work. In many of her paintings, the face is deliberately concealed or fragmented, shifting attention away from individual portraiture and towards gesture, symbolism, and emotional meaning. After graduating in Communication Sciences and Psychology, she continued her artistic education at the Scuola di Arti Ornamentali San Giacomo and the Scuola Romana di Fotografia in Rome. This multidisciplinary background informs an open approach to materials and techniques, where the chosen medium always serves the concept rather than defining the work itself. Through painting, sculpture, and immersive environments, Ludovica Lugli invites audiences to slow down, observe more carefully, and rediscover listening as an essential act of connection with ourselves, with others, and with the spaces we inhabit.
